General information
Hungary has been a full member of the Schengen area since 21 December 2007.
Visas and residence permits issued by Schengen member states are also valid for Hungary, as are uniform Schengen visas issued by Hungarian missions abroad and residence permits issued by Hungarian authorities throughout the Schengen area.
Citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina holding a valid private passport, diplomatic passport or service passport can travel to Hungary without a visa, where they are entitled to a visa-free stay of 90 days within a 180-day period.
Please note that pursuant to Regulation (EU) No 610/2013, third-country nationals (including those entering the Schengen area without a visa) may only enter the Schengen area with a travel document that is valid for at least 3 months beyond the date of departure from the Schengen area and that was issued no more than 10 years ago at the time of entry.
Persons holding a valid residence permit issued by another Schengen Member State may stay in the territory of Hungary without a visa for 90 days within a 180-day period. Holders of a residence permit issued by Hungary may stay in the territory of another Schengen Member State for the same period.
You can find out more about the general rules for issuing Schengen visas here.
Visa applications must be submitted not before than six months and at least 15 calendar days before the intended visit. If there are less than 16 days left until travel from the date of submission, the visa application cannot be accepted.
In justified, urgent individual cases, the consulate may allow applications to be submitted beyond the 15 calendar days deadline before the start of the planned visit.
