A Hungarian passport is a document that authentically proves identity, citizenship and entitles you to travel abroad and return home.
Our Consular Office has the option of initiating the issuance of a private passport, which can be done in person at a previously agreed time.
When submitting your application, please bring your valid and/or expired Hungarian documents (including proof of address!).
Please note that when submitting an application for a minor child, the presence of both parents and the child is optimal, but under certain conditions we can waive this (we will provide details of this by phone upon request).
For passport applications submitted at the Consular Office, in addition to the document issuance cost, we also charge a consular assistance fee!
After submitting the application, the documents are produced in Hungary, but it is also possible to request that the documents be delivered to the foreign mission.
Clients can collect the completed documents in person at our Consulate, or we can also mail them if requested.
We would also like to draw your attention to the fact that in the case of applications for the issuance of Hungarian documents, the administration is carried out in Hungarian, and applicants with Hungarian citizenship are expected to have basic conversational Hungarian language skills.
If the applicant cannot communicate in Hungarian, doubts arise regarding the legality of the acquisition of citizenship, and therefore we are obliged to refuse to accept the application or to draw up a report on the case.
The report will be forwarded to the domestic (Hungarian) authorities, where they will investigate the circumstances of the acquisition of Hungarian citizenship, and if appropriate, they may decide to revoke the citizenship.
